The first step in the process of getting the bust of Alexander Duchnovich in the upper garden was to present plans to the Landmark Committee of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation to receive permission to go forward with the plan. (drawing courtesy of Paul Burik)
From there - permission had to be obtained from the City of Cleveland. A sculptor to create the clay form for the mold had to be found, the mold made and then the bronze bust poured.
The pedestal came from a quarry in Pennsylvania where John's ancestors settled upon immigration to the U.S.
On a cold November 21, 2011, Fran Burik, John Krenisky, Marcia Benko and Paul Burik gathered to be present for the installation of the tall pedestal and the placement of Father Alexander Duchnovich in the upper Rusin Garden. It culminated many years of hard work on the part of John Krenisky, with the help of Paul Burik, to bring Father Duchnovich back to a place of honor. The base of the pedestal is Pennsylvania sandstone. This would mark the beginning of preparations to have a formal dedication of the bust the following spring.

John and Paul worked long and hard to get to this day. It only seemed fitting that they have the honor of unveiling the new bust. Paul was instrumental in helping ohn through the entire process, from the drawing to present to the Landmark Committee, to finding funders and companies capable of creating the mold and bronze bust. At the time, Paul was President of the Cleveland Cultural Garden Federation.
